Jewish Hockey Players Making an Impact

Jewish hockey players around North America are making big impacts on their respective teams. Every week, we here at israelicehockey.com will feature a profile on a Jewish hockey player, who plays either professionally, in Junior or at the Collegiate level.

In our first profile, we will focus on Trevor Smith of the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the AHL. Smith comes from Vancouver, where he started his Junior career in the famed BCHL, eventually moving to the USHL to play with the Omaha Lancers, where he tore the league apart. As a late bloomer, he was not drafted into the NHL, but instead earned an NCAA D-1 scholarship to the highly acclaimed University of New Hampshire.

After starring at UNH, he was approached by several NHL teams about signing a professional contract, and he eventually did so with the New York Islanders. He started his pro career in the ECHL, but quickly moved up to Bridgeport, where he has become a bonafide sniper, scoring 30 goals last season. He also got his first taste of the NHL playing 7 games in the 2008-2009 season and even scoring his first goal against Calgary.

Smith continues to score and help the Tigers in the AHL, and he keeps working hard to get back to the show. We wish Trevor nothing but luck and we congratulate him for all his success.
